This Sunday, January 15th, 2017, Pastor Kris White continued our new series Over The Top here at The Bridge Church in Denton, TX.

Over the Top Anointing:

“Friends, this world is not your home, so don’t make yourselves cozy in it. Don’t indulge your ego at the expense of your soul. Live an exemplary life among the natives so that your actions will refute their prejudices. Then they’ll be won over to God’s side and be there to join in the celebration when he arrives.” (1 Peter 2:11-12, Message)

Here is a great definition for Over The Top:

“So unconventional, exaggerated, or excessive as to be considered outrageous, unbelievable, ridiculous, etc.” (Webster’s New World)
“Bold; beyond normal, expected, or reasonable limits; excessive; outrageous. Exceeding the normal bounds; immoderate; extravagant.” (American Heritage Dictionary)

When you hear the words Over The Top, imagine a picture of a cup overflowing.

“You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” (Psalms 23:5)

What is this anointing that The Bible talks about? It’s the smearing, or rubbing, of oil or perfume upon an individual. Like in the Old Testament, the kings and priests were anointed.

You are called to live this overflowing, saucer serving, life, but of course there’s an enemy who wants to stop your flow. He wants to mess with your flow.

Here are ways that the enemy tries to stop your flow:

  1. By distracting you, and causing you to drink from other fountains.
  2. By overwhelming you to make you start looking at the storm instead of the shepherd.

The devil is trying to bury us, and God is turning it into a reservoir. Turn your regrets into a reservoir.

Read this example from the book of Joel of being overwhelmed:

What the chewing locust left, the gobbling locust ate; What the gobbling locust left, the munching locust ate; What the munching locust left, the chomping locust ate. Sober up, you drunks! Get in touch with reality – and weep! Your supply of booze is cut off. You’re on the wagon, like it or not. My country’s being invaded by an army invincible, past numbering, Teeth like those of a lion, fangs like those of a tiger. It has ruined my vineyards, stripped my orchards, And clear-cut the country. The landscape’s a moonscape. Weep like a young virgin dressed in black, mourning the loss of her fiancé. Without grain and grapes, worship has been brought to a standstill in the Sanctuary of God. The priests are at a loss. God’s ministers don’t know what to do. The fields are sterile. The very ground grieves. The wheat fields are lifeless, vineyards dried up, olive oil gone. Dirt farmers, despair! Grape growers, wring your hands! Lament the loss of wheat and barley. All crops have failed. Vineyards dried up, fig trees withered, Pomegranates, date palms, and apple trees – deadwood everywhere! And joy is dried up and withered in the hearts of the people. Nothing’s Going On in the Place of Worship. (Joel 1: 4-12, Message)

Here are some ways to go Over The Top:

  1. Return and rend your heart.
  2. Release what’s in your cup.
  3. Reestablish your praise.
  4. Receive the spirit.
  5. Realize His reward.

How are you planning to go Over The Top in the year of 2017?
