This Sunday, October 2nd, 2016, Pastor Duane White continued our REthink series here at The Bridge Church in Denton, Texas.

REthink:

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:2, NKJV)

God’s thoughts are good. As you realize this truth, you can REtrain your brain.  You don’t have to be enslaved or imprisoned to your own thought processes.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice…Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:4 & 6, NKJV)

There are three major mind REnewal keys that the Apostle Paul points out here:

  1.  Always REjoice! Joy is the first key to the REnewing of your mind. You can’t be in joy and be depressed at the same time. You can’t be in joy and be in fear at the same time. He says rejoice always!
  2. Be anxious for nothing! If you always rejoice, you will never be anxious.
  3. Pray about everything with thanksgiving.

The reality is we have been programmed to worry and be negative. Because it’s familiar, we kinda like it. Over time, we end up with the tendency to worry over praise, or to have fear over praying. But here is the good news: If you have the propensity for worry, you have the potential for creativity.

Genesis 1 says that God “hovered,” or “brooded,” over the formless world and brought order into chaos. The devil wants you to negatively “brood” over your life and turn the order God destined over you into chaos. We all know we should pray about our problems instead of worrying about them; but let’s be honest, most of us worry way more than we pray. The Word says “be anxious for nothing, but with prayer and supplication…let your requests be made known.” Just talk to God and ask Him about it. When the potential for worry comes, stop, even for ten seconds, and pray. 

When you rejoice and choose to be anxious for nothing, the peace of God will guard your heart and your mind. Peace is a state more than a relationship or attitude. It’s the condition of being peaceful or tranquil. It’s the total absence of conflict with what you are at peace with. 

This peace, he says, surpasses all understanding. God’s peace is better than your mind. It’s greater than your reasoning, and guards you against your reasoning. Living a life of peace is a choice you have to make. If you don’t like your train of thought, jump off the train! Your mind has the capacity to go anywhere. 

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)

Paul continues in verse eight with truth. Reality is, we live in a world of non-truth. This verse is what your thoughts should look like.
