This Sunday, June 5th, 2016, Pastor Alex Vasquez unpacked an amazing message titled REwrite, at The Bridge Church in Denton, Texas.

This week, Pastor Alex Vasquez began his message by asking three questions that should challenge you, make you think, and hopefully help you move forward from REmembering to REwriting.

  1. What is your story? (Is it a comedy? A tragedy? A drama? A fiction story?)
  2. Who’s holding the pen?
  3. Why me?

It’s easy when we read the stories of all the incredible people in the Bible and say, “Wow. I want to be just like David, or Joshua, Esther, or Ruth,” but most of the time it’s because we see the beginning and the end of the story. If we were to just look at the beginning of the story for most of these people, we would want nothing to do with them.

Here’s the beautiful thing about God: He takes a person who starts with a very ordinary beginning, and then in a way that only He can do, he weaves the extraordinary into you, so that people see your life and say “Wow. That person is no ordinary man.”

There might not be a better example of this than Moses. He was born in an absolutely terrible time in history, when mass genocide was happening to all the Hebrew boys being born.

“At that time Moses was born, and he was no ordinary child. For three months he was cared for by his family. When he was placed outside, Pharaoh’s daughter took him and brought him up as her own son. Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action. When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his own people, the Israelites. He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian. Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not. The next day Moses came upon two Israelites who were fighting. He tried to reconcile them by saying, ‘Men, you are brothers; why do you want to hurt each other?’ But the man who was mistreating the other pushed Moses aside and said, ‘Who made you ruler and judge over us? Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’ When Moses heard this, he fled to Midian, where he settled as a foreigner and had two sons.” Acts 7:20-29

Imagine being the only man or woman in your generation. God has this amazing way – when you entrust him with your life, and when you realize that there’s something inside you that can be awakened by God, He can REwrite your story from the very day you were born.

If you don’t allow God to expand your borders, let you dream new dreams and enter into your imagination, then your soul can harden, and it will feel as if there’s nothing extraordinary about you.

Even when we can’t comprehend or explain it, God is able to REwrite parts of our story that were buried deep, and to create something even better than we could imagine.

“You are God’s instrument for creating the future only HE imagines right now.” – Erwin McManus

God created you to create. He designed you to design. Because you were born no ordinary child.

Just as God himself started this whole story of the universe by creating, He wants to live inside your imaginations, your creations, and REwrite your story – all the way from the beginning, to your last breath and beyond.
