This Sunday, April 3rd, 2016, Pastor Duane White began a new series titled REencounter: 40 Days with the Resurrected Jesus at The Bridge Church in Denton, Texas.

REencounter: 40 Days With the Resurrected Jesus

Have you ever had an encounter with someone that totally changed your life? One so real that if you closed your eyes, you could remember it so vividly that you would feel as though you are back in that same position? Most likely anyone could think immediately of some kind of “ENCOUNTER” with someone that changed their life.

In this week’s message, Pastor Duane began unpacking the beginning of a new series about REencountering Jesus. So, for the next few weeks, we will be diving in and looking at a few of the people who encountered Jesus in the 40 days immediately following His death, burial, and resurrection.

Most, if not all, of these people had who encounter Jesus in these 40 days had encountered Jesus before, but this time something was different. He was different. He was resurrected. Their lives had all been changed by their first encounter with Jesus, but they were about to be changed again… and again…and again!

Over the course of these 40 days, Jesus appeared to over 500 followers on at least eleven different occasions before His final ascension back into heaven. These encounters not only changed the lives of those individuals, but the results of them changed the world forever!

As we look at these encounters, we can learn lessons from each one of them that applies to us. We can also see that Jesus has never stopped encountering people from those 40 days until now. He has actually been REencountering people ever since, and He is still encountering people today!

Jesus wants to have a fresh encounter with all of us, and He wants to have a fresh encounter with you! Are YOU up for it?

This Sunday we began our journey by looking back to the very first encounter Jesus had after His resurrection – on the first Easter Sunday morning from John 20.

“But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb. And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”  Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).  Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ ” (John 20:11-17, NKJV)

There are so many significant things about this encounter, but here are a few in order to learn the lessons that might help us in our encounters with Him:

  1. God encounters the most unlikely characters.
  2. God encounters people in their darkest hour.
  3. Just because you don’t recognize Jesus doesn’t mean He isn’t there.
  4. Don’t cling so tightly to this moment that you miss what Jesus is doing next.

Whether you are brand new to this journey, or if you’ve walked with Him your whole life, God wants to meet with you. If your life is rosy, or if you are in your darkest hour, He wants to meet with you.

Jesus is ready to have a fresh encounter with you. Are YOU up for it?
