Know, Grow, and Go!
This Sunday, April 13, at the Bridge Church in Denton, TX, we celebrated our 7th anniversary as a church! We looked thankfully at the past but faithfully to our future! Our mission is “to connect people to life!” In his message Pastor Duane helped us define exactly how we are going to do that moving forward.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. [John 10:10 NKJV]
The Greek word for “life” here is not “bios” (where we get our word “biological”), which is natural life, but “zoe” the God kind of life. Zoe is about quality of life. It is the very life the Father possesses; the very life Jesus brought from heaven, and the very life He wants to give EVERY born-again believer!
So how exactly do we connect people to life?
- Knowing God
- Growing in God
- Going for God
Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ [Philippians 3:8]
…that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.” [Philippians 3:10-11, NKJV]
This knowledge is not mere information; rather, it is an intimate knowledge you can only obtain through experience. It’s experiencing God in an intimate way which causes you to know Him. Not just know “about Him”, but to truly “know” Him. Everything else pales in comparison to having a relationship with our loving creator, and father, God.
Growing in God
God has designed each and every person for growth. Jesus loves us as He finds us, but He never leaves us as He finds us! Just as our natural bodies were created for growth, spiritually we were made to grow. [Ephesians 4:11-16]
But how do body parts grow?
If a body part is cut off from the body, it ceases to grow, while the rest of the body continues to grow.
Thus, if we as members of the body of Christ are cut-off, and no longer connected to the body, we cease to grow in Christ.
Every member of our body is extremely important. Take, for example, a muscle in your back that you never think about. If you suddenly pull or strain that back muscle, you realize how much it affects the other parts of your body. Now, moving your leg is painful because of a pulled muscle in your back. It’s strange to realize how intertwined our bodies are, but this our design: and this is how God designed the church!
It’s crucial, no matter who you are or how you fit into the body, that you plug into the local body of Christ, so that you can continue to grow and are not easily tricked or misguided to go down a path of pain and destruction. We need to grow up into Christ!
“It’s time for the body (church) to catch up to the head (Jesus)”
– Pastor Duane
Get connected and become the member of the body that you were designed to be to fulfill your purpose in life.
Going for God
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” [Mark 16:15]
Going is the by-product of a believer who consistently KNOWS, and GROWS… they WANT to GO! Translated better it reads “as you go”. AS YOU GO into YOUR world, tell your world about the love of God that you have experienced. Share the joy that is found in Him.
Consequently, as you go and make yourself a BRIDGE by connecting others to the God-life that you have found, others will experience God, and begin to grow in Him and go in Him, also becoming a BRIDGE for others. It’s a never ending CYCLE of life.
At The Bridge, we are committed to…
CONNECTING PEOPLE TO LIFE…BY KNOWING, GROWING, & GOING
How about you? Are you up for it?
